Day 2

Exploring Yangliuqing Ancient Town

Discovering Northern Art and Historical Culture

On November 30th, Beijing time, the second day of the Canada New Power Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce's home visit delegation's tour in Tianjin took place. In the morning, the delegation visited Yangliuqing Ancient Town in Xiqing District, Tianjin, to explore this historically rich and culturally vibrant hub of northern Chinese art.

01| Visiting Yangliuqing ancient town

Yangliuqing is a town known for its preservation of traditional Northern Chinese arts, particularly its New Year paintings, which have been a hallmark of the region for centuries. These paintings often feature colorful, detailed scenes symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. The delegation's visit to the town provided a unique opportunity to experience the local cultural heritage and art forms firsthand, reinforcing the connection between art, history, and modern-day business cooperation.

This visit not only allowed the delegation to appreciate the town’s cultural significance but also offered insights into the long-standing artistic traditions that continue to influence the region. The delegation’s experience in Yangliuqing reflects the deeper, cultural exchange aspect of their ongoing efforts to foster stronger ties between Canada and China.

The delegation members took a stroll through the streets and alleys of Yangliuqing Ancient Town, deeply immersed in its simple and authentic local culture, as well as the town's rich cultural heritage. At the Yangliuqing Folk Culture Museum, they explored the theme "History, Folk Arts, and Heritage." The visit took them through six major exhibition areas where they learned in detail about the origins and development of folk arts such as Yangliuqing woodblock New Year prints, kites, and paper-cutting.

Yangliuqing is renowned for its rich history of folk arts, particularly its woodblock prints, which are famous for their vibrant colors and intricate designs symbolizing prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. The museum provided a comprehensive understanding of these art forms, showcasing how they have been passed down through generations and remain an essential part of local traditions.

The delegation’s experience in Yangliuqing not only highlighted the town's historical and artistic significance but also provided them with an opportunity to appreciate how these traditional crafts continue to thrive and influence modern culture. This visit emphasizes the cultural exchange and mutual appreciation between China and Canada.

In Yangliuqing Ancient Town, the delegation members had the opportunity to personally experience the traditional process of creating Yangliuqing woodblock New Year prints. They engaged in every step of the process—from sketching, carving the print blocks, to the intricate method of color layering (known as "suiyin") to produce the final print. This hands-on experience offered them a more vivid and profound understanding of the ancient craft, allowing them to feel as if they were directly connected to the pulse of history.

The art of Yangliuqing woodblock printing is not only visually captivating but also embodies rich cultural values, making it an invaluable experience for the delegation. Through this tactile and immersive interaction, they gained a deeper appreciation for the meticulous skill and artistic tradition that has been passed down for generations in this area. It also allowed the members to witness firsthand the creativity and ingenuity that continue to preserve and evolve these cultural traditions.

02| Exploring Qing Dynasty Courtyard Culture and History

Afterward, the delegation visited the Shijia Courtyard, a Qing Dynasty residence with a rich history of 140 years. Known for its grand architectural scale and exquisite brick, wood, and stone carvings, Shijia Courtyard offers a remarkable display of the unique charm of northern Chinese courtyards during the late Qing era. More than just a representation of the Yangliuqing culture, the courtyard stands as a model of the traditional "courtyard culture." It is a living witness to the historical event of the "Great Migration" (赶大营), capturing both the glory and hardship of this period in Chinese history.

The Shijia Courtyard embodies the fusion of architectural ingenuity and cultural richness, making it an invaluable historical landmark that offers a window into the socio-political landscape of late Imperial China. Through their visit, the delegation members were able to appreciate not only the aesthetic beauty of the residence but also its historical significance.

Exchange Session: Focusing on Overseas Investment and Cooperation Opportunities

In the afternoon, under the leadership of Zhao Juan, the representative of the New Dynamics Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce's Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei headquarters, the delegation visited the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center. They held in-depth discussions with nearly 20 enterprises interested in expanding their business internationally.

This exchange session highlighted the importance of cross-border business relationships and emphasized the need for proactive communication and cooperation between Canadian and Chinese enterprises. Through this kind of interaction, the delegates were able to identify opportunities to leverage their expertise and resources to create fruitful partnerships for future economic and trade ventures.

At the meeting, James Wang, the founder of the New Dynamics Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce, began by providing a detailed introduction to the Chamber's development journey. He especially highlighted the establishment of the Canada-El Salvador Trade Bureau in June, which was commissioned by the government of El Salvador. This bureau aims to offer strong support to Chinese businesses and their products in entering the Central and South American markets.

Zhao Yu, the head of the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center, further elaborated on various topics such as overseas investment, trade exhibitions, and channel resource integration. He focused on introducing the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center, which is the only one of its kind in North China. The center spans a total area of 6,500 square meters and features exhibits related to international economic and trade policies, cooperation achievements, overseas exhibitions, overseas warehouses, and industrial parks. This sparked a sense of excitement and a strong sense of potential for future collaborations among the delegation members.

This session underscored the growing importance of international trade and investment hubs like the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center, and how they play a crucial role in fostering bilateral economic ties and facilitating cross-border trade opportunities.

Day 2

Canada Pavilion Establishment

Building a Bridge for Canada-China Business Cooperation

Following this, a moment of great significance unfolded as the Xinflix Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce officially established its Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Representative Office at the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center. This landmark event was unveiled by Mr. Bai Wei, President of the Tianjin Resource Integration Association, and Mr. Zhao Yu, the Head of the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center. Together, they inaugurated the office, marking a strong and pivotal step in their collaboration.

This partnership is poised to further enhance the deepening of economic and trade relations between Canada and China, offering new opportunities for cross-border investment, trade expansion, and cultural exchange.

What stands out particularly is that the Xinflix Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce will establish a Canada Pavilion at the Tianjin Overseas Investment and Trade Service Center. This pavilion will serve as a platform for member companies of the Chamber who are looking to enter the Chinese market, offering them a free exhibition space along with comprehensive, one-stop, efficient services. This initiative not only highlights the foresight and strength of the Xinflix Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce but also marks one of the key achievements during the return visit delegation's trip to Tianjin.

By establishing this pavilion, the Chamber aims to bridge the gap between Canadian companies and the opportunities available in the Chinese market, creating a mutually beneficial environment for future cooperation.

During the meeting, there was a special introduction of the Xinflix Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce's Biannual Economic and Trade Summit Forum. The 2024 Fall Economic and Trade Summit Forum highlights video was also presented, providing the Chinese representatives and guests in attendance with a comprehensive and in-depth perspective. This was done to enhance their understanding and recognition of the Chamber and its efforts in promoting economic and trade cooperation between Canada and China. The video recap helped illustrate the Chamber's achievements and showcased the depth of its ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening cross-border business relationships.

This event was part of the Chamber's strategic efforts to continue to drive growth and collaboration, particularly in the context of the Canada-China economic landscape.

During their time in Tianjin, the delegation not only witnessed the unlimited potential and bright future of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Jingjinji) region but was also deeply impressed by the innovative technologies here. This experience sparked a strong desire for collaborative partnerships.

The next stop for the delegation will be Sichuan Chengdu, where they will have meetings and discussions with local well-known companies and relevant institutions. With much anticipation, we eagerly await more good news from their journey, and look forward to witnessing the new chapter in Canada-China cooperation being opened.
